When oh when are they going to update that insanely arcane iCal "feature" on .Mac. Why isn't it easy to access my calendars from my .Mac homepage? And WHY can't I ADD an event from .Mac. So frustrating.
Amen on that. It's frustrating that a lot of .mac has been ignored for the past few years. It seemed like that service was improved more often back when it was free. I don't get it.

Hello, it is of my understanding that outlook keeps all of my emails saved locally on the computer. Is this true?
if so, for space reasons I would like it not to save them locally, is there an option to do so?

Those for the death penalty. How do you feel about Manning (I think that's his name. The guy that released the classified documents), if found guilty he can get the death penalty for it. Hugh
That's horrible. Definitely not death penalty material. Actually, it's not even life in prison material.
And if you get rid of those extra appeals then you will kill more innocent people, and how is that different from murder?
Wow, again with the innocent people argument? How many times do i have to explain that there are many clear cut cases where there is no chance of innocence before you people get it through your heads? I already named two of them. While i acknowledge past wrongs, this is pretty much next to impossible today thanks to dna technology which only really went mainstream in the last decade. sorry guys, but there is no way ill be convinced that killing a serial killer is immoral.

I got this book :
http://www.mobipocket.com/eBooks/cover_remote/ID3298/9780470389379_9780470389379.jpg
My parents understand how bad I am at cooking in my own place :)
Also got some chocolates and cash (which will likely be used for GT5/PS3, ski gear, and car yearly fixing).
But the best of the best was to be with the family.
Merry Christmas to each and everyone of you fellas

i'm a webdesigner and totally agree with psychometry.
the new textarea feature is the worst way to resolve one of safari worst layout problems. current textarea doesn't show the scrollbars everytime it's necessary and sometimes resizes horizontaly while you're typing, damaging some page layouts.
if the new feature allows users to resize both verticaly and horizontaly it's probably a bad sollution apple found to the scroll problem.
if you don't design pages you may not understand, but sometimes its necessary to fix a size to a textarea and other components (height and width), otherwise it will push other elements and images would look like a puzzle. fixing size is one of the solutions to make pages working in different browsers, once each one show form elements diffrently.
even if the resize feature doesn't push other elements, override them would be terrible as well. if you have links and other text fields for example, how would it behave if you use tab key to swich field in a form?
Just tried the *similar* feature in OmniWeb's browser it's not even half as bad as you guys are making it out to be... don't be a whine-o :D
Oh yah and by the way, I design websites. From my experience with people, it's better for them to have a good user experience on a site and the text area thing WILL help out. I believe that the text area expansion will only be temporary, and when the page is refreshed the design will look as good as it always was.

I've had my 5th gen. iPod video for about five years now, and it's treated me well; until last night. I was lying in bed listening to music, and I wanted to skip the song, so I pushed the forward button. Nothing happens. I try it again; the iPod freezes for about 20 seconds, then totally powers down, and makes a clicking noise (sounds like a drive maybe?).
Now, every time I turn the iPod on, I get the Apple logo, and it immediately goes to the "Connect to your computer, use iTunes to restore" screen, and after about 10 seconds, it powers off, again making the same whine/click noise. It's in a loop with this.
If I plug it into my computer, it doesn't read whatsoever; nothing on my desktop, nothing in iTunes, but the iPod itself goes to disk mode with a white screen and a "do not disconnect" sign. I cannot seem to get it out of disk mode, let alone get my computer to recognize it, so I can't restore it. I have a Macbook, and I've tried to restore it using other computers (several Windows systems) and it recognizes a "USB mass storage device", but doesn't appear in iTunes or anywhere else.
I've tried doing the manual reset, tried diagnostics mode, and to no avail. It's stuck in disk mode in a perpetual loop every time I turn it on, and NO computers will recognize it.
I have a really old 3GB iPod mini that I got years ago, so that's been my replacement for the past 24 hours— problem is, 3GB hardly compares to the 30GB that was on my iPod video; I can't even fit a quarter of my library on it. I'm kind of upset about it, I mean, I know that 5 years is quite awhile, but I've taken extremely good care of the device. It's been in a protective case ever since I got it, and I rarely drop it. I use it about every day. Any ideas on what I can do? To my understanding, if the hard drive has crashed, a sad iPod logo will appear, and that hasn't happened yet, so... who knows? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. I don't really want to pay Apple to repair it because I may as well buy a new iPod (which I won't be able to do for quite awhile, broke college student here).

Man! I've got a lot to learn :o Thanks for sharing those figures. The frustrating thing is the pricing spectrum for design is so wide, it's hard for a beginner to get a decent idea of what to charge. I guess I have to look at as many pricing sources as possible and and try to distill some figures? I have the "Graphic Artist Guild" handbook, but those prices are through the roof. I imagine they're for seasoned professionals working for major clients. Thanks again!
I was quite happy paying $100 and $400. I believe that I got a great deal!!
Hope your business does very well!!
Cheers.

Why not? The USA for example has only 4 million miles of roads. A car with driver + passenger + some decent equipment should be able to map say 10 miles per hour, at a cost of $50 per hour. 200 cars for a year, that's 20 million dollars. And then you have a database that you can sell, and that you can use everywhere. Then write an iPhone app that lets users make corrections, lets businesses add their locations etc. and you are ready.
As a driver in North America, rather than just the US, let's make that an extra million miles to include Canada and Mexico. Canada seems well served by most map services but Mexico is not. Most map services seem to leave out gas stations in Mexico, a rather basic need.

Not much. If T.J. Maxx or other outfits or private individuals buy any product at retail price, they own it. Under Federal Trade Law, there are very little resale restrictions. Also, you can sell it for any price your want, that is as a profit or a loss. T. J. Maxx did a classic loss lead to get traffic into their stores from the iPad "sale." I say it is legal IMO.
There is nothing illegal in what TJ Maxx did. They paid a price for the item and sold it. There is nothing that stops them from selling things at a loss, and it gets people in their stores. The rumor is they bought 2 ipads for each store, sold them at a loss of 100.00 each, but created a huge advertising buzz and got people in their stores. It is actually pretty brilliant and not very costly. Now if they would only do it with generation 2...

Why? The law requires an rights owner to defend its IP or risk losing it. These suits are just business, no hard feelings, as seen by Apple's monster-sized component contract w/ Samsung. Any yes, business is about making money.

LOL that's such an immature comment from yourself.
Of COURSE they are trying to patch up the Jailbreak holes found by the JB community....
Sure they have bug fixes, but rarely will they go "to fix a security hole that allows users to jailbreak"
so no, it's not "PROBABLY" break the JB.... is: it WILL.
He was stating a fact.
No, he was stating the reason for the update was to break the JB. That is NOT a fact. He is not privy to iOS planning meetings and unless the update only breaks JB and nothing else, then he has no basis for his assumption.

Who.. does... Arn work for?! :D Very cool, I like it. I actually feel like the image of Steve Jobs as Dr. Evil is good enough to stand on it's own without any of the other animation necessary at all.

The best way to avoid the experience of the music industry is to respond to a changing market and give people what they want before they get mad enough to expend the effort to just take it and feel justified.
I couldn't agree with you more. The current model that the MPAA and the RIAA are trying to preserve is simply irrelevent with the advent of digital media as a realistic and easily obtainable alternative. They had a chance to embrace it and make serious changes to the way they do things (i.e. find some way to deliver content at essentially no cost to the consumer but still turn a profit through ads and other sponsorship, which would work because the cost of producing the content is decreasing really quickly) but they chose to fight it and they can't win. The iTS is a compromise between the two, but I'll stick to free media and pay to go to concerts for bands I like and see some movies in the theatres.
